With the growth of (Centre) Wellington the need for services from their regional medical center grew. The current building was constructed in 1955, with new wings added in 1965 and 1980. Donations from many organizations and individuals with regional interests have supported the medical center through the years.
In 2007 however, it was reported that instead of renovating the site with the monies raised, Groves Memorial Community Hospital is planning to move to a whole new location. The 2007 estimated costs to renovate the existing building are now $73 million with the estimated costs for a new building at $71 million.
